The Congenital Heart Walk shows the nation how a team of inspired individuals can join together to make a difference. Funds raised will support the missions of both national nonprofit organizations who are uniting to fight CHD! Since 2010, CHW has raised more than $5 million in total.
Why you walk: As a University of Florida undergraduate student, I began the Gainesville CHW to raise awareness within the Gator Nation and surrounding Gainesville community. On behalf of my committee and co-founder of Gators for The Children’s Heart Foundation, Rachel Sharp, we walk to honor and remember those born with congenital heart defects.
CHD connection: My Daughter Lillian Victoria “Lily” Dice was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome on April 2, 2014. Her condition went undiagnosed until April 7, 2014 when we rushed her to the hospital where she passed away a few short hours later.
Why you walk: Shortly after Lily passed away I found out about the first annual Greater Atlanta Walk and #TEAMLILY was formed! I decided that I would not let my angel’s death consume me. I would work to raise funds and awareness so hopefully one day babies like Lily would have a chance for survival. In our first year #TEAMLILY was the Top Team at the Greater Atlanta walk and was represented at the Tampa, Long Island, and Michigan walks too! In year one, #TEAMLILY raised over $10,000! So far for 2015 we have raised over $5,000. I know that no amount of fundraising will bring her back but I take comfort in the fact that she is living on through #TEAMLILY. - Kim Dice
