The Congenital Heart Walk shows the nation how a team of inspired individuals can join together to make a difference. Funds raised will support the missions of both national nonprofit organizations who are uniting to fight CHD! Since 2010, CHW has raised more than $4 million in total.
Why you walk: As a University of Florida undergraduate student, I began the Gainesville CHW to raise awareness within the Gator Nation and surrounding Gainesville community. On behalf of my committee and co-founder of Gators for The Children’s Heart Foundation, Rachel Sharp, we walk to honor and remember those born with congenital heart defects.
CHD connection: Team Jason walks in honor of Jason Cooper, who was diagnosed with tricuspid atresia, transposition of the great arteries, and coarctation of the aorta.
Why you walk: We first got involved with the walk when Jason was just under a year old. We were looking for something fun and exciting that we could involve our family and friends in, we had so much fun that we did it again the following year. 2014 will be our third Congenital Heart Walk. We love being able to spread CHD awareness and keeping our family and friends a close part of Jason’s journey.
